SUMMARY:COMPASS for the Caregiver (4 Week Course | Online)
DESCRIPTION:Caregiving can be a stressful\, isolating\, and overwhelming experience. And due to the COVID-19 pandemic many caregivers are experiencing added levels of stress and anxiety. \nOur award-winning COMPASS for the Caregiver program helps caregivers balance their own well-being with the challenges of caregiving and is facilitated by someone who understands those challenges. \nThis COMPASS for the Caregiver workshop is being held online over the span of 4 consecutive weeks. Before registering please ensure that you can virtually attend all 4 sessions listed below. \nFriday\, June 5th (1:00pm-3:00pm) \n\nModule 1: Caregiver Characteristics – Recognize your strengths\, needs\, and challenges as a caregiver and take pride in your role. You’ll examine emotions and feelings in this module and help put challenging thoughts into perspective.\n\nFriday\, June 12th (1:00pm-3:00pm) \n\nModule 2: Managing Stress – Learn how stress can lead to burnout and what you can do to prevent or recover from burnout. We’ll explore grief and loss and how to foster hope and seek balance in caregiving.\n\nFriday\, June 19th (1:00pm-3:00pm) \n\nModule 3: Balancing Relationships – Improve your communication skills to identify what you need\, ask for help\, and share the care. The hardest lesson as a caregiver is to regain your identity as a whole person by taking care of yourself first.\n\nFriday\, June 26th (1:00pm-3:00pm) \n\nModule 4: Navigating the System – Increase your confidence in accessing services\, reflect on your caregiving journey\, and plan for the future to avoid the stress associated with uncertainty.\n\nThe COMPASS for the Caregiver workshop has a $300 value. Thanks to sponsorship from Caregivers Alberta this course is being offered for a $45.00 manual and registration fee. Please note this is a 4-week commitment. \nREGISTER

SUMMARY:How Technology Tools Can Improve Dementia Caregiving (Online Workshop)
DESCRIPTION:Join Johnna Lowther to learn about Tusk\, a care navigation tool that can help support caregivers who are caring for loved one with dementia. \n1 in 4 Albertans are caregivers. For each person diagnosed with dementia\, there are 10-12 additional people directly impacted by the diagnosis- providing assistance and/or managing care. \nHow do we help caregivers more effectively and efficiently find resources needed to assist them? Learn about a technology tool that helps caregivers navigate the system\, access resources\, and focus on their own health and wellness in the process. \nTusk\, The Care Navigation Tool\, provides support to caregivers who are on a journey they didn’t sign up for and are coping and managing as best they can. It acts as a central hub of information to guide caregivers through searchable service provider categories and educational resources. It also helps track the health and wellness of caregivers and care recipients to promote informed decision making. \nREGISTER

SUMMARY:The Grief of Losing a Loved One to Dementia (Online Workshop)
DESCRIPTION:Join Ashley Mielke\, Founder and Director of The Grief and Trauma Healing Centre for an engaging heart-to-heart conversation on what grief is\, the losses associated to Dementia\, the normal and natural reactions to loss\, the myths and behaviours that keep us stuck\, and the actionable steps you can take to heal and move forward.\n\n\n\n\n\n\nOne of the most painful losses that we can experience is the slipping away of a loved one to a disease like Dementia. Our grief compounds as the condition worsens and we are left holding onto who the person was before the onset of the disease. Every hope\, dream\, and expectation we carry in our heart’s for our relationship slowly slip away. \nMany people experience a slow deterioration of their loved one’s health and others experience a more rapid decline. Every loss is unique\, therefore every grieving person is unique. Regardless of your circumstances\, your emotional responses are completely normal and natural. \nSadly\, we haven’t been taught the information on how to navigate our grief in a healthy and meaningful way. Many of the intellectual messages we hear like “keep busy” and “be strong” are well-meaning\, but they are not emotionally helpful and often further isolate us in our pain. \nThe wonderful news is\, grief does not have to be a life sentence of suffering. There are actionable tools that can help us to move beyond the pain\, isolation\, and loneliness caused by loss\, including Dementia. \nREGISTER
